Award-winning American musician Jake Blount and his band are heading to the UK for a two-week tour in late May/early June 2022, culminating with performances at Fire in the Mountain festival. Jake’s debut solo album Spider Tales was released in 2020 to widespread acclaim (with glowing reviews in The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Songlines among others). An exceptional banjoist and fiddler and soulful singer based in Rhode Island, USA, Jake is one of relatively few African-American artists on the old-time and Americana music scene. A two-time winner of the prestigious Appalachian String Band Music Festival (Clifftop) instrument contest in West Virginia, Jake was the first Black person to ever make the finals.
He was also one of the winners of the prestigious Steve Martin Banjo Prize in 2020. Many UK old-time enthusiasts will have seen Jake with the Moose Whisperers at Gainsborough Festival back in 2019, but this will be his first full UK tour under his own name. Jake has studied with luminaries including Rhiannon Giddens and Bruce Molsky, and his work shines a light on the often overlooked contributions that Black, Indigenous and LGBTQ artists have made to American folk and traditional music. On this tour, Jake will be accompanied by his own stringband, comprising Nashville-based New Zealand fiddle ace George Jackson, Nelson Williams (double bass) and Gus Tritsch (guitar and banjo uke), all exceptional musicians in their own right.
