Yorkshire-based bluegrass, old-time and Americana promoter Maria Wallace (True North Music) has another online event happening in early July.
The Streaming Across the Sea Online Festival is split across two weekends to avoid clashing with the football Euros. Part 1 on Sunday 4th July will feature livestreamed performances from the USA, with Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno (who also play in exciting young old-time group The Onlies) followed by an in-the-round special with Melody Walker (Front Country), Benjamin Hunter, Liv Greene and Joe Troop (of Grammy nominated Che Apalache).
There will also be participatory Zoom workshops – Ottawa Valley step dancing with Canadian fiddle/dance ace April Verch (who performs in a duo with Joe Newberry as well as in her own trio) and bluegrass banjo with BB Bowness (of award-winning band Mile Twelve). Part 2 on Saturday 10th July will include a livestreamed concert featuring excellent UK folk-Americana bands Jaywalkers and The Jellyman’s Daughter, filmed and livestreamed at Maria’s (empty) local community venue, plus a morning mandolin workshop with Jaywalkers’ Mike Giverin (aka Mando Mike).
True North Music will broadcast all the performances to their YouTube and Facebook pages (links below), and these will be free to enjoy, with donations welcome. Workshops are ticketed and will be delivered via the Zoom platform with numbers strictly limited.
